*CAREER OPPORTUNITY*

*PARALEGAL [SRO-06]*

*American Civil Liberties Union Foundation*

Voting Rights Project, GA

The American Civil Liberties Union Foundation (ACLU),founded in 1920,
is a nationwide, nonprofit, nonpartisan organization, with more than
500,000 members and is dedicated to the principles of liberty and
equality embodied in the Constitution. The Voting Rights Project of the
ACLU's National office in Atlanta, GA is seeking applicants for the
full-time position of Paralegal. The position will either end or be
transferred to New York City in mid-2013.

*OVERVIEW*

The goal of the ACLU's Voting Rights work is to protect and facilitate
the right to vote. Voting is essential to a democratic society, and
restrictions on the right strike at the heart of representative
government. All Americans should be able to vote, and all votes should
count equally. The right to vote should not be limited or denied on the
basis of race, ethnicity, language or any other arbitrary basis.
Moreover, all Americans should have easy and equal access to the vote.

The ACLU's current voting priorities include: 1) making sure the right
to vote is not denied or abridged on the basis of race or language; 2)
ensuring that as redistricting goes ahead after the 2010 census,
everyone has an equal vote; 3) challenging practices that deny the right
to vote outright, through purges of voting rolls and practices that deny
the right to vote to people who have completed sentences in prison; 4)
making ballot access easy; 5) challenging modern vote suppression measures.

The Voting Rights Project is part of the ACLU's Center for Equality,
which also includes the ACLU's Racial Justice, Immigration and
Disability work. The Center works to vindicate the federal
constitution's promise that all Americans will receive equal protection
under the law.
