[Circulation] Some Reminders

Hi everyone,
In preparing to open this morning, I'm noticing some discrepancies in
our book quarantine procedure that have carried over from yesterday that
I want to note and correct moving forward. This email is long, but
*please read this in its entirety.* This is all going to sound very nit
pick-y, but it has been set up to ensure that any COVID virus that
happens to come into the library on incoming materials (no matter how
small that chance) has an opportunity to die before we reshelve it or it
goes out to a patron.
First: *Any incoming or returned materials should be laid flat, in one
layer.* I know that on Mondays, we get a lot of materials through FCD,
which should be laid out to quarantine on the brown table to the side of
the InfoBar. If that table fills up, *do not stack items. *Research that
we have been following shows that it takes longer for the COVID virus to
die on surfaces if library materials are stacked on one another with
surfaces touching. If you run out of room, *use the open reserve shelves
as overflow space.*
Second: *All incoming returns should be laid flat on the CD stacks just
beyond the New Books shelf.* This morning, I found some returns on the
returns shelves behind the InfoBar designated by school, which we have
used in past semesters. However, as I mentioned in the last paragraph,
books need to be laid flat during their quarantine period, so those
shelves are, for now, defunct.
If you're wondering where all of this is coming from, it is coming
straight out of our ~official~ documentation, implemented this semester,
for processing all incoming and outgoing books from the InfoBar. *I am
leaving a copy of that documentation by the headcount binder, please
read through and ask questions to myself, Suzanne, or Sam during your
shifts this week. *
Warmly,
Olivia
