[Asianmedia] Screening for 4-20-06

Hey Asian Media,
I just rode in from Northampton and boy, is my ass tired...

Wait...I think I did the joke wrong...

Seriously though, you folks should go check out the folks at Sazanami, the
Japanese club-thingee at Smith. They're doing a variety of really awesome stuff
this week. For instance, I just saw Grave of the Fireflies for the first time. I
only now just stopped weeping like a baby. If people are interested, I can send
out another email with the times and places of their events for the rest of the
week.

Not that Hampshire lacks in cool Asian stuff either. I was disappointed that I
didn't see more of you at the awesome Pan-Asian conference last weekend.

But anyway, you probably want to know what we're screening this week, so here
goes:

8:00PM - Waterboys - A decent live-action comedy about a kid who dreams of
becoming a professional swimmer. But since he's the only member of the swim
team, it's about to be disbanded. The team draws a lot more attention when an
attractive new coach shows up, but starts to shrink again when it's found out
she wants to lead Japan's first all male syncronized swimming team. But when
she is unable to work, will the team survive and persevere or hide in
embarrassment? I watched this over Spring Break, it was great. Especially with
the synchronized DDR playing halfway through the movie. :D

9:30 - Haibane Renmei - In our weekly anime, Kuu has disappeared and the rest of
the Haibane struggle with her loss. However, this may not be the end of their
troubles as Rakka begins to notice some disturbing things about herself and
gets into a situation she may never recover from. Or she could make one of the
biggest discoveries about herself so far.
