Sex Work? Art? Oh!My!
Time and Place
Date: Thursday, February 22, 2007
Time: 5:00pm - 7:00pm
Location: West Lecture Hall, Franklin Patterson Hall, Hampshire College
The members of the Sex Workers Art Show will be traveling to the Pioneer Valley
to perform at UMass Amherst and the next day, they're coming to Hampshire.
These artists will be coming to show examples of their work, talk about their
experiences in the industry, and provide a forum for discussing greater
strategies of queer activism. This will be a panel discussion with ample time
for questions for and about the work of the Sex Workers Art Show.
The Sex Workers Art Show is a traveling cabaret-style show that includes music,
spoken word, burlesque and multimedia performance art from artists involved in
all aspects of the sex worker industry. The performance offers a wide range of
perspectives about the industry from sex-positive affirmations of the
identity of a sex worker to darker stories from the underside of the
controversial community. Strippers, prostitutes, domes, film stars, phone sex
operators, Internet-models, & more come together to create a multi-faceted look
at the sex worker industry from a perspective that uses visual and performance
art to challenge the stigma that surrounds sex work.
