hey all, this is coming from a fellow student who just attended a conference
in ohio, hosted by united students against sweatshops (usas).

they're running a national campaign to kick sodexo off campuses due to
labor and human rights abuses world wide. sodexo has their hands in a lot of
shady businesses, among them serving sub-par food to college students.
while it's been attempted at hampshire before, now we have the resources a
national campaign and its momentum to support us in getting rid of sodexo
for good.

check it out...

United Students Against Sweatshops is waging a nation-wide campaign against
Sodexo for their bad world-wide labor practices, in the hopes that by
targeting the biggest fish in college contracting it will send a message to
the larger world that students won't tolerate their school's $$$ going to
exploitation and abuses of worker's rights. The campaign is big and is
raging. In January student protesters stormed the stage of the Sodexo global
shareholder's meeting in Paris. And some schools are going all-out militant
with sit ins and civil disobedience over this. As Hampshire students we are
reluctant Sodexo benefactors I think it is Hampshire's role to step in and
join the fight.

So the meeting:
5:00 Sunday in the film photo building (so we can watch some video clips)

bring yourself to hear from Claire, the USAS regional organizer for our
area. And to strategize about building a coalition and CAMPAIGN!
This first meeting will be more of an open discussion weighing options and
talking about possibilities, so any folks who want to learn more or are
already pumped to organize should come along. We are not going to flier
about it for stealth-sake so please spread by word of mouth or listserv.
