SYSTEMS ADMINISTRATOR POSITIONS

Academic Technology Services 

 

Amherst College invites applications for two systems administrator
positions. 

 

The Database Services Systems Administrator supports the College's HP-UX
and UniData based ERP database, Datatel.  Candidate will collaborate
with department users with varying levels of technical skills,
Information Technology staff, financial auditors and third party
technical support.  Qualifications:  Bachelor's degree required,
Master's degree preferred and 3-5 years of professional experience
supporting server infrastructure or, in lieu of degrees, 7-10 years
equivalent work experience.  Candidates must have extensive knowledge of
Enterprise Unix server management and multi-user relational database
management. Other requirements of the position include knowledge of web
server applications (Apache and IIS); one or more high-level programming
languages, such as C++ and Java; current scripting languages/protocols,
including PHP and XML; managing all facets of server administration,
from system set up and software installs, debugging complex related
systems and subsystems, through managing backup and restore procedures;
and, experience collaborating as part of a group, supporting end users,
and supervising the work of contractors.  Job  Search:  DS/SA:  SR

The Academic Technology Services Systems Administrator and Programmer
supports the educational and research mission of Amherst College by
providing server administration and server-side application development,
which includes planning, technical implementation, and management of
educational, research, and administrative projects.  Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree required, Master's degree preferred and 3-5 years of
professional experience supporting servers, clusters, and other
networked computing environments, including Internet 2 or, in lieu of
degrees, 7-10 years equivalent experience. Other requirements of the
position include in-depth knowledge of LAMP environments; web
application servers, such as Apache; one or more high-level programming
languages, such as C++ and Java; current scripting languages/protocols,
including PHP, XML, Ajax; and, database standards and applications, such
