Dear Friends,

Last Thursday, Meg Sanders, a brilliant young book artist and social
activist, was struck and killed by a truck while she was riding her bicycle
on Elm Street in Northampton. Meg was a recent graduate of Hampshire
College and had worked, since 2004, at the Wide Awake Garage in
Easthampton. This Sunday, October 2nd, there will be a memorial
celebration of Meg's life and her various accomplishments. It will begin
at 1pm in the Red Barn at Hampshire College. Participants are asked to
bring some food or beverage to share.

Hampshire College has established a scholarship and endowment fund in Meg's
memory to continue the work that she loved and to underscore her dedication
to teaching others about books, book design and book binding. The Meg
Sanders Memorial Fund eventually will provide funds for advanced students
in the book arts to produce their projects and to acquire artist books for
the College's library collection. For further information about donations,
please contact Sura Levine (SLEVINE at hampshire.edu).

We hope to see you on Sunday.
Yours,
Sura Levine
