Hello again! There are still scholarships available to students who are
interested in attending our program, "The Plays of Sholem Asch." Would
you mind sending out a reminder to the Jewish Faculty listserv? Here is
 the information again:

The Yiddish Book Center has a limited number of scholarships available
to students who would like to attend our weekend program "THE PLAYS OF
SHOLEM ASCH [1]," running NOVEMBER 1-3, 2019 IN AMHERST, MASSACHUSETTS.

Yiddish writer Sholem Asch is perhaps best-known for his early play,
Got
fun nekome_ (_God of Vengeance). Its heady mix of themes--including
prostitution, lesbian romance, and religious hypocrisy-- brought Asch
fame and notoriety. But the rest of Asch's extensive dramatic output
has
been almost entirely forgotten. His more than twenty plays explore
interfaith love, the Jewish underworld, Messianic dreams, and class and
 power in the Jewish world.

This program includes four lectures, readings, and kosher meals, and
will be led by three leading scholars of Asch and the Yiddish theater:
 Professor Joel Berkowitz of the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee;
Yiddish Book Center Bibliographer David Mazower; and actor, translator,
 and author Caraid O'Brien.

_Currently enrolled undergraduate or graduate students are eligible to
apply for a scholarship that will cover the entire cost of the weekend
(lectures, meals, and events, though not accommodations). To apply,
students should email Margaret Frothingham at
mfrothingham at yiddishbookcenter.org with a brief (150-300 words)
description of where they go to school, what year they are, what they
are studying, and why they would like to attend this program. We want
to
know how this program would contribute to their course of study. The
deadline to apply for the scholarship is OCTOBER 4. Please note:
Students who have previously been awarded a weekend program scholarship
 are not eligible to apply._

 Thanks so much,

 Margaret

 Hi Jonathan,

The Yiddish Book Center is offering scholarships for students in the
5-colleges to attend our weekend program, "The Plays of Sholem Asch",
at
no cost. Josh Lambert suggested we reach out to you about announcing
this opportunity to the Jewish Studies listserv. Would you mind passing
this information along? Here is the blurb:
