Dear JSUniks,
> We have recently received a small grant that is dedicated to “History of anti-semitism” and the richness of Jewish life, and can be used for a trip to explore the Jewish experience in Europe, while at the same time building the Hampshire JSU. We are in the process of putting together a trip to Jewish sites in Spain for a pilot project with a small select group of students. The trip will take place in May very soon after finals. The exact to be determined depending on student schedules.
> Interested students are welcome to apply. Please see the projected itineraries below—we will not be using this travel company, but these itineraries reflect the standard Jewish Spain trips. We would do a version of these trips.

> A committee of faculty and staff advisors will make final decisions. Priority will be given to students who have over the course of their career at Hampshire contributed a minimum of a semester to the growth and sustenance of the JSU—whether through working Jewish events, helping support Shabbat, or being an active member of the JSU. Priority will also be given to students who identify strongly with Jewish tradition and have Jewish roots.

> Students will be staying in hostels and sharing dorm rooms. At some places when we are staying more than 1 night, we would buy and cook the food in the hostels.
>
> We would most likely be taking trains from one location to the next. There would be local Jewish historian guides in the different cities to lead us on walking tours and educate us. There will also be a few hours of free time in each location for exploration on your own. Students should be prepared to walk up to 5 miles/day.
>
> In preparation for the trip All student participants would be expected to learn about one of the locations we visit or one of the Jewish leaders or rabbis or communities who lived there and give a presentation to everyone else to educate and orient us.
>
> The trip cost will range somewhere between $1800-2000 (depending on number of days) and airfare would be about $500 if you fly out of boston or nY (things change daily but big east coast cities will have the best deals). There is scholarship money available for the Land costs (except for lunches, which we’d buy on the street and a few dinners). Students are expected to raise their own funds for airfare and any transportation in the US to get to the airport.
> Students will be expected to keep a journal about the trip and take photographs in order to make presentations to the Hampshire community upon our return. There will be a couple of organizing meetings before departure.
>
> I only received confirmation on these funds recently and will need to work quickly to make arrangements—I not 100% sure that its doable given the lateness of the date, but I will make every effort to make it happen.
>
> If you are interested, I look forward to hearing from you ASAP indicating your interest, and you will receive an application form. Applications will be reviewed and decisions made on a rolling basis, so if you are seriously interested please be in touch with me as quickly as you can.
> We will need to make all determinations hopefully by MARCH 10, so that folks can purchase plane tickets before the prices rise. If you have any questions, please be in touch!
> Thanks very much!
