As you may have heard, the College has begun a process to build on the work
done in 2011 to create an expanded strategic plan that will engage the
whole Hampshire community in defining our priorities and goals for the
coming three to five years.
A sound planning process blends the vision of leaders with the ideas of the
community and it creates the space and time for that blending to occur
iteratively over time, through several cycles of input and reflection. We
want to engage everyone—faculty, staff, and students—and benefit from
everyone's knowledge, experience, and perspectives. To accomplish this, the
Strategic Planning Steering Committee (SPSC), co-chaired by Norm Holland
and Theresa Leroux, is facilitating many opportunities for members of the
community to think hard and share their thoughts with colleagues in
inclusive and respectful ways.
Hampshire is working with Keeling & Associates (K&A)—a comprehensive higher
education consulting group—to support and advise this process. The SPSC is
organizing almost 100 individual and small group meetings this fall in
which K&A will gather community input.
*The SPSC invites** students connected with Spiritual Life** to join
Keeling & Associates for a discussion on Wednesday, November 13 from 5:00-5:50
p.m. in the Bradford room, second floor of the Library. Please mark your
calendars. As you prepare for that meeting, please think about these
questions:*
- What *must* be on the table in considering Hampshire's priorities for
the coming three to five years?
- What should *not* be on the table? That is, what is so fundamental and
distinctive that it should not be up for review or change?
- What should the "next approximation" of Hampshire College be?
