Hi Everyone,

Here is the copy I have generated for the response about voter validation. I
am also taking this opportunity to structure it as the first regular
community update. A system that I think needs to be developed. Here is the
copy below. Let me know what you think!

###

Tuesday Talkback Copy:

Welcome to the first Tuesday Talkback from the Hampshire Student Union. This
will be a bi-weekly report from the HSU on the state of our Union. This week
we will be discussing the next steps of the acts most recently passed, and
the validation of the voting results. The HSU Scope groups are actively
looking for new members! If is you want to get involved please email
coordboard at hampshire.edu

The next steps of process for the acts passed by Town Meeting:

1. The barn funding act is in the process of transferring the funding
to the appropriate on campus accounts. Rehamping, our contractor for the
college, and all other stakeholders in the Barn project are finishing their
construction timeline and are moving forward at full speed. The various HSU
scope groups are starting their advising process as mandated by the act.

2. The student endowment is now open to be used by the student
community of the college. A proposal form shall be available shortly.

Validation of voting results:

1. A large part of this first run of town meeting voting system,
Qualtrics, was finding out where the major flaws were and developing fixes
for them. One major concern was the lack of a tie to the college's common
login system Shibboleth. Another issue was the lack of lack of compatibility
with some mobile devices. Version two of the town meeting voting system has
been upgraded to include a much stronger voter verification system that
includes Shibboleth. It also now works with all standards complaint mobile
browsers.

2. Data validation is complete for this last polling. Validation was
accomplished through pattern recognition across five quantitative metrics
and one qualitative metric: IP addresses, time, date, duration, result, and
comments. Pattern recognition was performed within Qualtrics itself and the
raw data was also processed with Excel. Pattern recognition screened all
five metrics for similarities. The comments as a whole were read; major and
minor flaws were identified and fixed for this Next Town meeting. A full
report on the data from voting as well as the after polling survey will be
released soon.

The next Town Meeting will be on November 19th! Come out and help shape the
future of the college.
