Description
• Ready to be trained in specific aspects of immigration law with the
final goal of providing the individual an opportunity to interact with
the law center’s clients.
• Contact clients by telephone to set up interviews or obtain information.
• Call various social agencies on behalf of clients to clarify or help
obtain benefits for the client.
• Interview clients under the supervision of the law center’s director
to help process various immigration forms and petitions.
• Perform various tasks associated with management and recording of
service in client’s files.
• Keep log of daily and weekly contact with clients for monthly and
quarterly reports.
• Assist the legal staff in varied workshops and seminars to be
developed for the immigrant community by the law center.
• Complete 1 citizenship project
• Perform Community Outreach and Translate/Interpret.
• Assist clients in Cross Cultural Counseling Center with outreach,
translation,&
interpretation if needed.
• Attend AmeriCorps bi-weekly meetings on Friday afternoon.
• Other duties as assigned.
Requirements:
• Professional, must be able to represent the Institute well.
• Be responsible, reliable, and keep appointments with clients.
• Be able to commit to a regular schedule.
• Excellent organizational skills. Need to be a quick learner and be
articulate.
• Must be culture-sensitive and comfortable helping people of diverse
cultural and ethnic backgrounds.
• Arabic bi-lingual skills required. French is a plus.
• Able to help the law center director and staff in processing client’s
immigration petitions.
• Must be proficient with computer software.
• Must show proof of permanent resident: green card, INS form I-551, or
US Citizenship. Refugees and Visa Holders not eligible.
• Must be able to commit to 23 hours/week (PT) from March 15-Dec. 31, 2011.
• No weekend hours available
