Description
The Program Assistant provides administrative support for the Human
Rights Program (HRP) at Harvard Law School. S/he is the first point of
contact for this fast-paced program, which introduces law students to
international human rights work through clinical projects, coursework,
fellowships and events. Job applicants should have strong
multi-tasking/organizational skills, sound judgment, a sociable demeanor
and the ability to set priorities under pressure.
The Program Assistant works primarily for the Executive Director, but
also assists more than a dozen faculty and staff members, as well as
students. S/he coordinates all logistics of the office, including
facilities and IT requests, weekly staff meetings, the Executive
Director’s calendar, and academic events. Other responsibilities include
preparing course materials and maintaining course websites; distributing
office mail and organizing mass mailings; managing office vendors; and
maintaining office files and databases.
The Program Assistant works closely with the Academic Director to
support HRP's Visiting Fellows program. S/he organizes visiting fellow
applications and appointments, offers basic support to visiting fellows,
and coordinates the distribution of materials and logistics for HRP's
Visiting Fellow luncheon series.
Under the direction of the Executive Director, Academic Director, and
Communications Coordinator, the Program Assistant also organizes
conferences, speaker presentations, and events. This involves drafting
correspondence, reserving accommodations, arranging for formal and
informal dinners/receptions, ordering refreshments and audio-visual
equipment, coordinating travel for speakers and guests, and advertising
for events and processing speaker reimbursements.
This is a term position until 6/30/2011 with continuation based on funding.
Basic Qualifications
1-2 years of professional administrative experience. An appropriate
skill set and commitment to human rights. B.A. degree preferred.
Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Office, web research, and databases
is required. Candidates will be tested in MS Office.
