MHC Vietnamese Students Association cordially invites you to an open

the Vietnam War - its controversial environmental effects, and the
unsettled legal debate between the United States and Vietnam 35 years
after the war.
*
_Time, date & location_: 7:00pm, Thursday December 9th, Cleveland L3,
Mount Holyoke College**
_Guest speaker_: Susan Hammond, Founder and Executive Director of War
Legacies Organization
*
*Refreshments will be served.*
Agent Orange is believed to have affected nearly 2.8 million US veterans
and have caused more than 1 million birth deformities in Vietnam since
1975. The war left behind not only 20 million gallons of this deadly
herbicides, but also prolonged suffer for Vietnamese younger
generations. Was the use of Agent Orange justified? Why has the US
denied compensation for Vietnamese victims? How Agent Orange is
affecting the lives of innocent children in Vietnam, Cambodia and Laos?
And what are the solutions?
The discussion is led by our special guest: *Susan Hammond,**the Founder
and Excecutive Director of War Legacies Organization*. Her organization
focuses on the long-term impacts of war to develop a fuller
understanding of the costs of war, increase public understanding of
these costs, foster public dialogue about the impacts of war and conduct
programs that help mitigate the impacts of war at home and abroad.
Prior to founding the War Legacies Project Susan worked as Deputy
Director for the Fund for Reconciliation and Development for 9 years
where she lived and worked in Cambodia, Laos, Vietnam and New York. She
received her MA in International Education from New York University and
a BA from Smith College.
