Hi everyone!

So these next 2 weeks are gonna be different than usual. Here's the plan:

*Tomorrow, Monday the 30th, at 4:00pm in the RCC:*
The ASK symposium is kicking off with the annual Eqbal Ahmad Lecture, which
this year is being presented by Patrisse Cullors, Alicia Garza, and Opal
Tometi; who are the founders of #BlackLivesMatter. I *highly encourage you
all to go. *More info at: https://www.facebook.com/events/1557640361178788/

*There will be no 6:00pm GRN social event on Monday the 30th:*
We didn't have anything planned and nobody had any suggestions, and we
couldn't have gotten food this week. Please go to the Eqbal lecture instead.

*At 7:00pm on Monday the 30th there will be a GRN organizing meeting in the
CFF:*
*Please come to this*
We have been really struggling this semester because not enough people have
been coming to the actual GRN organizing meetings, which are technically
what GRN "is". Those meetings put on the social events that happen every
week but this semester we've often had <5 people. That makes it hard to do
stuff! We haven't been able to do more of the other things we've done other
semesters, like creating GARB and SMERC, because we haven't had enough
people attending our organizing meetings. We've also had no clue what to
plan for most social events. GRN isn't just something that *happens*, I
don't get paid to organize it and it won't stick around unless other people
pitch in and make it their own. We never planned for it to be a group that
is run only by the signers.

At this organizing meeting we'll be talking about trying to get speakers
from the Trans Lifeline to come to campus for a potential event; as well as
figure out logistics for going to see Janet Mock the next week. We'll also
need to plan a meeting for the week after the 6th, since we won't be having
a meeting the day that we go see Janet Mock.

There won't be food so eat dinner in advance.

*On Tuesday the 31st, at 4pm in FPH East Lecture Hall:*
Also a part of ASK, Sasha Alexander Perez and Olympia Perez from *Black
Trans Media* will be having a screening of *I AM (HEAR)* and holding a
discussion. More information is available at:
https://www.hampshire.edu/cultural-center/session-descriptions

*Once again, I highly highly encourage you to go this.*

*On Monday, April 6th, We will be going to Smith to see Janet Mock, rather
than having a normal meeting*
Janet Mock is an amazing writer and activist who is also host of a cultural
critique show, So POPular, on MSNBC. She's a black trans woman who wrote
the bestselling book *Redefining Realness: My Path to Womanhood, Identity,
Love & So Much More.*

She's going to be speaking at Smith at 7pm. We'll all be taking a PVTA
together and heading to John Greene Hall at Smith (no really, it's called
John Greene Hall) to see Janet Mock, instead of trying to have a competing
event. At the organizing meeting tomorrow we'll figure out which bus we're
taking and where we're gonna meet first, and then send that out to the
listserv.

Further information is at: https://www.facebook.com/events/1543095709285026/

Once again, we won't be feeding you this week so eat dinner in advance.

Cool! So that's the plan for the next two weeks! Hope to see you at all of
these! I know some of you are probably upset that we won't really be having
GRN events for a while but I didn't think we should be competing for your
time and energy when there's all these awesome much bigger events going on
centering the lives of black trans women. Most of GRN is pretty white and
as white (trans) people we *need* to pay attention to the voices of black
trans women.

<3 you all, and good luck with your various life crises,
Jess
