*Fairfield University Florence Program January intersession (Italy)*
January 2 - 13, 2011
Spend your semester break in Florence, Italy, the historic “cradle of
Renaissance civilization.” Fairfield University offers you the
opportunity to take a fascinating course in one of Europe’s most-loved
cities: Early Renaissance Art in Florence
The early 15th century was marked by an extraordinary convergence of
artistic talent, interest in the classics, civic pride, and belief in
“man as the measure of all things.” This course examines the artists and
architects who contributed to the Early Renaissance, with emphasis on
Florentines, including Donatello, Masaccio, Brunelleschi, and
Botticelli. They are examined in the context of social and political
conditions of the time. Broader issues, such as humanism and
neo-Platoism, are also considered.
Application deadline is October 29, 2010
For more information visit http://www.fairfield.edu/sa/
*Siena School for Liberal Arts (Italy)*
The Siena School for Liberal Arts in Siena, Italy will be offering two
January programs this year and there is still enough time to apply:
Intensive Italian and Cultural Studies
Dates: January 5 - January 27th, 2011
Cost: 2600 Euros
This program is open to beginner, intermediate, and advanced students.
It consists of intensive language classes (grammar and conversation),
combined with a discussion-based introduction to various aspects of
Italian culture. Since students live in Italian home-stays, the culture
component of the course will expect students to use their homes as a
discussion area, keeping a daily journal, and bringing all their
observations to class.
Medieval and Renaissance Art in Siena and Florence
Dates: January 5 - January 27th, 2011
Cost: 2700 Euros
This course is an introduction to Renaissance Art in Tuscany and it
explores in-depth the historical, political, and cultural evolution of
Siena and Florence between the 14th and early 16th centuries. The course
will focus attention on the way art evolved in the most important
artistic centers of Tuscany and will also emphasize the way that cities'
diversities during this period created a range of distinct styles or
"schools". Most classes will be excursion-based.
Application Deadline: November 15, 2010
