*The Hague: International Human Rights Tribunals* with professor Flavio
Risech
Dates: Jan. 5-16
Observe actual court proceedings in various international criminal
tribunals in such places as the International Criminal Tribunal, the
International Court of Justice, and the UN's high court for resolution
of disputes between states. You will be completing a research paper
based on viewing these proceedings as well as visits to courts of
historical significance like the Special Court for Sierra Leone.

*The West of Ireland: Land and Landscape* with professor Mark Feinstein
Dates: Jan. 5-17
West Ireland has a rich natural history that is intertwined with the
history of the people who have lived there. Explore the beautiful
natural landscape while studying its historical and current uses and
possible future.

*Tibetan Studies in India* with Smith professor Jay Garfield **Upcoming
GEO info-session about this program on 10/1/09**
Dates: Dec. 27-Jan. 23
Experience daily lectures in Buddhist philosophy, Tibetan medicine, art,
history, and culture. Visit various cultural sites that figure
significantly in the history of Buddhism. The program will also visit
Hindu temples, Indian museums and participate in other cultural
opportunities.

This info-session will be held in the Dakin Living Room from noon-1:00PM
on Thursday Oct. 1. representatives from Smith college will come to
answer questions and talk more about the details of the program. To find

Field Study Program Spotlight/
Do you want to learn Spanish while raising your social, political, and
cultural awareness???/
Come to the CETLALIC information presentation given by director Jorge
Torres. This meeting will be held in the Merrill Living Room from 3-4:30
PM on Wed. Sept. 30th. CETLALIC is a progressive Spanish immersion
school in Cuernavaca, Mexico that uses Paulo Freire's pedagogical
methodology to teach either Jan-Term or semester long courses on
subjects as diverse as worker's rights, education, health care,
religion, and LGBT life in Mexico. Sounds fantastic!!

Looking for a study abroad scholarship?* The Gilman International
Scholarship Program is accepting applications for folks who wish to
study abroad in the Spring or summer of 2010! The application is online

the criteria for student applicants and a full list of deadlines
associated with the application process. Come into the office to speak
with Brianna Mercker, our very own Gilman advisor, and/or with Brittney
Sampson, a GEO ambassador who has previously received this scholarship.

*Five College Africa Day*
The theme for this year is Inside Africa: Sovereignty, Skyscrapers, and
Scholarship. Five College Africa Day is a forum in which students,
faculty and the greater community can bring you "Inside Africa"--hear
about each others' research, debate important issues, learn more about
Five College student groups and study abroad opportunities, witness
musical and dance performances, and eat great African food! This event
will take place at the Amherst Campus Center of Amherst College on
Saturday Oct. 3rd, starting at 2PM. For more information you can visit
