Happy Hampshire Halloween everybody! As you put the finishing touches on 
your costumes, take a moment to think about your plans to study abroad. 
Have you been looking for a study abroad program that focuses on LGBTQ 
studies? In this edition of the GEO Digest I'll be highlighting some 
LGBTQ international field courses. But first lets start with some...

UPCOMING DEADLINES and EVENTS!!

Nov. 2nd: January-Term Deposits & Acceptance Forms Due to the Global 
Education Office

Nov. 3rd: Czech Rep. and Poland Summer Program Info Session in Franklin 
Paterson Hall (FPH) 106
Professor Jim Wald and a representative from the Dartmore Institute in 
Prague will present information and details about an exciting Short-Term 
Field Course offered this summer: Identities, Culture and Texts in 
East-Central Europe to the Czech Republic & Poland (led by Prof. Polina 
Barskova, HACU, and Prof. Jim Wald, Social Science).

Nov. 4th @ 4:00PM: Hampshire in Berlin Info Session in Emily Dickinson 
Hall (EDH) 4
Come meet students who studied in Berlin during Spring 2009, and learn 
about the program. This meeting will be a great opportunity to hear from 
the students who lived in Berlin for six months earlier this year. 
Hampshire has an exchange agreement with the Free University, and 
Hampshire students will have the opportunity to take classes at one of 
the Berlin universities, to arrange an internship, and/or to do 
independent research.

Also on Nov. 4th: Lexia, a Study Abroad Provider Tabling at the Dining 
Commons during lunch
Lexia is a study abroad program provider that offers courses in a number 
of different countries. All programs have a focus on cultural immersion 
and community engagement. Come to the table between 11:30 and 1:30 to 
learn all about Lexia from a representative of the organization!

LGBTQ STUDIES ABROAD!!

Comparative Women’s Movements and Gender Studies in Europe- Antioch 
College (Fall 2010)

"Explore and examine feminist and queer theory while conducting field 
research across Europe." For a semester travel to the cities of Krakow, 
Prague, Berlin, Amsterdam, Utrecht, and Istanbul while completing four 
courses accredited through Antioch College: Situated Feminism: 
Socio-Political Systems and Women's Lives, Issues in Feminist 
Methodologies, Compare Feminist Theories, and Independent Field

Gender, Sexuality and Social Change in Mexico- Center for Global Education

This is a summer program based in Cuernavaca, Mexico."Learn about the 
lives of Mexican women from revolutionary times to the present day who 
have embraced Frida Kahlo, renowned Mexican artist, as a symbol of 
women’s struggles for revolutionary change. Special attention will be 
given to the areas of gender, sexuality, politics, and the arts, 
including meetings with women’s and LGBTQ groups." Students also 
complete two courses accredited through Augsberg College: The Legacy of 
Frida Kahlo: Gender, Sexuality, Politics and the Arts, as well as one of 
17 Spanish courses depending on your level of proficiency. For more info

LGBT in Paris- Hofstra University

"The LGBT in Paris program focuses on a group of topics that address gay 
life in Paris." This is a January Term program in which students take 
one course, "Queer Paris," and have the ability if they so wish to take 
an additional course, "Irony in Modern French Fiction." Students also 
visit prominent sites of queer life in Paris such as Piano Zinc, the 
oldest functioning gay bar in Paris, and Café Beaubourg, known as the
