2 1/2 Hours in the Closet with Kara Lynch and Jaclyn Pryor
**sneak a peak at new & used projects & practices in time-based arts**
In celebration of the 100th Anniversary of International Women's Day, Feminist
Studies and The Center for Feminisms are presenting this talk by Kara Lynch
(HACU) and Jaclyn Pryor (IA, CSI). Lynch and Pryor will be sharing and
discussing their performance installation work, which engages themes of race
and gender, trauma and memory, diaspora and loss. Please announce to your
students, and come if you can. (Poster attached).

kara lynch is a time-based artist. Major works include: 'Black Russians' a
feature documentary video; 'The Outing' an experimental video piece including:
'Mi Companera' and 'Me-baS( I'm Coming'; 'Xing Over' 6hr performance/2.36min 3
channel audio piece; 'Mouhawala Oula' a live trio performance for belly dance,
video, and saxophone 'Invisible', a multi-site video/audio installation. She is
a member of La Lìnea and artist collective based in Tijuana, Mexico. Living en
exilio in kings county ny, she retains a cali drivers license, storage space in
western mass and love for the pacific ocean. She is a gemini monkey born in the
momentous year of 1968.
jaclyn pryor is an interdisciplinary scholar and artist working at the
intersections of queer politics and experimental performance practices. Major
works: BREAD, a community-engaged performance event; pink: a (love) courier
service, a site-specific performance installation; and floodlines, a multi-site
performance installation. Her published scholarship includes: "Passing/Out in
Texas: The Challenges of Progressive Pedagogy in Conservative Climates"
(Theatre Topics); "Throws Like a Girl: A Festival of Intimate Performance By
Outrageous Women" (Theatre Journal); "Colleague-Criticism: Performance,
Writing, and Queer Collegiality" (Liminalities: A Journal of Performance
Studies); and "Sixteen Hand Gestures to Be Performed While Standing Still"
(Experiments in a Jazz Aesthetic: Art, Activism, Academia, and The Austin
Project). She is a cancer through and through--born in 1977, the auspicious
year of the snake.
