[Clusterusers] using the scratch or temporary directories

Hi Everyone,
This is a pretty easy question (I think): where are the temporary directories
and how can I access them?  I have some stuff that I'm saving to my home
directory, because redirecting it is really difficult, so I'm trying to clear it
off right away.  But I have other stuff that I'd like to produce quickly and in
quantity so the temporary directories would be pretty useful.
