[Circulation] Bookings

Hi All,

Several of you have already processed books and dvds received in the 5C
delivery. This is to alert you that some items received in delivery are
bookings and need to be handled differently. Bookings are usually
received in zippered green bags in the blue delivery bins and are media
items: vhs, dvds, or 16mm films. ALL BOOKINGS SHOULD BE HANDED OVER TO
THE MEDIA SERVICES OFFICE FOR PROCESSING. Even if the items do not come
in green bags they will have booking slips, see the one that is attached
as an example. It is important to not treat bookings like holds, because
bookings are checked out to dummy institution patrons. When you check a
booking in the item wants to go back to its home institution; it does
not generate a message like a hold does. The danger with this is that we
may accidentally return items that professors have booked to screen in
their classes. This happened some time last week, and the professor was
very unhappy when he learned the dvd he was going to screen today was
not here for him.

Thanks for your help with this, and please ask if you have questions
about this email.
