Hey everybody!
Happy, happy fall! Time for awesome and ASL!
This email will be longer than most, just to give the low down to the newest
additions to the list. Hi, new folks!
First and foremost: ASL Lunch! On FRIDAYS this semester! 12-1pm (or whenever
people feel like leaving!). Here's the deal: We meet in the back room of Saga
(the Dining Commons). We have a table sign and we're the quiet ones. You can't
miss us! If you are on the meal plan, please swipe in as usual; if you are not
on the meal plan, there will be a sign in sheet with Roberta at the front desk.
No charge for you!
Any and all levels of ASL welcome to come and practice. Disclaimer: we don't
teach ASL (petition the school to get more ASL classes! Seriously!). So,
you're all welcome, but bring a cheat sheet if you need, and brush up your
finger spelling :).
Through the semester we are also hoping to host a movie night or two, maybe a
pot luck, and maybe-possibly-it-could-happen go down to DC for the Gallaudet
Film Festival?! I'm looking for the info, stay tuned.
First years: the lunches (and any events we host) can count towards your CEL-1,
I believe, as long as you attend regularly. Let the signers know, though, so we
can figure out what, exactly, this CEL business is.
Speaking of which! Your signers/organizers for the ASL Collective (I know this
gets confusing as everyone on the list is a *signer* of American Sign
Language... yeah). Amy, Jessie, and Elisabeth! We'll be at the lunch to say
hi.
Any questions, comments, concerns, compliments, what have you- you know where to
find us!
Have a FABULOUS semester! See you soon!
Peace,
Amy
P.S. I turned on the TV show "Bones" right before I started typing this, and
it's the episode with the Deaf teenager and lots of ASL! Right now they are
matching her signing dialect to find out where she is from- linguistics is so
cool!
