*/VOICE MALE Magazine/*

/Voice Male/ magazine chronicles the social transformation of masculinity.
Since its modest beginnings as a newsletter a quarter century ago,/Voice Male/
has evolved into
a magazine exploring critical issues relevant to men's growth and health as well
as the damaging effects of men's isolation and violence. Key to its vision is
reporting on
efforts to assist boys and men on the journey to healthy manhood and central to
its mission is championing the rights and safety of girls and women.

In its pages readers discover the voices of a range of men---examining the
experiences of fathers, men of color, gay, bisexual, questioning men, and
transgendered
people, and issues facing younger men. Reviews of new books on masculinity and
examinations of developments in men's health, are augmented by feature stories
on
a range of topics from male violence in sports to pornography's manipulation of
men; from manhood in a time of war to how women and men can work together for
social justice and gender reconciliation.

*What exactly would the student be doing for you? What skills are you looking
for?*

As a small quarterly,/Voice Male/ offers a range of experiences for a student
intern---from researching grant opportunities and news short to identifying
subscriber
prospects; from requesting reprint permission to contacting potential social
justice contributors. The ideal candidate would be a self-starter, someone who,
with
appropriate direction, is capable of 'connecting the dots' to take a project to
completion.
*
**Be specific: writing, page layout, phone calling, webwork. How will this work
be used?*
The magazine is available as a print publication and is also available online.
Familiarity navigating the technical side of websites would be a plus. A good
writer would
likely have opportunities for some writing---marketing, grant narratives, new
shorts, reviews, etc. Yes to phone calling.
  *
How many hours per week do you envision this internship?*
Somewhere in the range of 10-15 hours a week. Negotiable.

*Will the student need to do the work at your workplace or can s/he do it from
home?
*Both. It will be good to work together sometimes in the office but there would
be opportunities for the intern to work independently at home.
  *
Is there a dress code? Will student be working with the public?*

There is no official dress code and interaction with the public would likely be
minimal. When we schedule public events (like last winter's day-long workshop
with
a delegation of domestic violence prevention advocates from Poland), dressier
clothes are appropriate.

*Is it paid or unpaid? Students earn credit depending on the number of hours per
week worked, but a small stipend or hourly wage, though not required,
is really helpful. Most of our students have to forgo part-time jobs to do
internships.*
At present this is an unpaid internship.

To Apply, please email resume and cover letter to Rob Okun,
