Dear Hampshire Group Signer or list moderator,

April 3 - 5 is the 9th Annual National White Privilege Conference. For the
first time it is right around the corner in Springfield, MA! The conference is
a chance to examine what it means to be a white person in the context of racism
in the U.S. The workshops and speakers will address issues of diversity,
multicultural education and leadership, social justice, race/racism, sexual
orientation, gender relations, religion and other systems of
privilege/oppression.

Thanks to funding from various offices on campus, Hampshire College is now
able to send a group of 20 + student and faculty, staff representatives to
the conference FOR FREE. Everything will be paid for: lodging, food, as well as
the conference itself.

The conference is an incredibly important opportunity for white students at
Hampshire to consider, examine, and reflect on the ways we participate in
racism and the ways racism affects us in our jobs, classes, social scenes,
and student groups.

We are writing to you, student group signers,in the mood of recent "coalitional"
meetings to try to extend the invitation explicitly to groups whose prime focus
and areas of expertise are not race and whiteness. We think that it would
serve your group, our potential coalition and the entire Hampshire Community if
more white people had the opportunity to understand their position in this
particular societal dynamic.

This is a challenge and opportunity to you, group signers, to send a few
representatives from each of your groups to this conference in an effort to
make every group on this campus, no matter the focus, anti-racist.

We have 20-30 spots paid for. We sincerely urge you to take up this challenge.

Thank you for your time and effort !!

Sincerely,

Ana Gordon-Loebl and Julia Metzger-Traber
