Hello queer, poc, and gender-based communities,
My name is Julian Padilla and i'm a Div 3. I am studying queer and
psychoanalytic perspectives of Daddy/son role-playing (inquire and i
will explicate).
Part of my Div 3 though, is a process. I will be holding a Hampshire
Community Dialogue on BDSM Race Play.
Before i do that i am doing a literature review, and holding two
focus groups:
one for students of color and one for white (anti-racist) allies
students to generate questions for the larger Dialogue.
WHAT IS BDSM RACE PLAY?
BDSM is an acronym that refers to Bondage/Discipline, Domination/
Submission, and Sadism/Masochism, a form of consensual sex that
involves sexy humiliation, restraint, servitude, pain, and
imagination. Expressions range from getting a spanking to being
whipped by a dominatrix, and far far beyond.
Race Play is a highly controversial form of BDSM in which racially
charged dialogue and scenarios are employed to achieve pleasure. This
can take the form of a role play in which a white "cop" coerces a
brown "convict" into having prison sex, or black "thugs" take
advantage of an "innocent" asian man. Like all role-playing that
takes place within BDSM communities, roles are chosen and desired.
That is to say, yes - there are people of color who like to be
dominated and called racial slurs in planned sex.
This is obviously a loaded subject which raises provocative
questions. These questions are being raised all over the country and
i would like to raise them at Hampshire. I am seeking a dialogue and
not an answer as to whether or not this is an acceptable practice.
I'M LOOKING FOR 5-8 POC AND 5-8 WHITE STUDENTS INTERESTED IN
DISCUSSING THE INTERSECTIONS OF SEXUALITY, RACE, GENDER, CLASS,
ABILITY, AGE, AND POWER IN BDSM RACE PLAY FOR ABOUT AN HOUR.
no previous knowledge of BDSM or race play necessary, though you must
be comfortable discussing race/gender/sex.
focus group meeting times will be contingent on participants'
schedules but will take place before Spring Break.
please contact me if you are interested or have questions.
