hey y'all,
i'm just forwarding an announcement for a film screening coming up at UMass:
"Boy I Am." I don't personally know anything else about it except what's
written here so I cant attest to much about it, but any opportunity to see how
queer and trans people are being portrayed and talked about in film should be
interesting at the very least. popcorn and discussion afterwards!

The Stonewall Center and Everywoman's Center Present:
WESTERN MASSACHUSETTS PREMIERE OF FILM "BOY I AM"
Thursday, November 16, 2006 at 7:00
Campus Center Room 101
University of Massachusetts

While female-to-male transgender visibility has recently exploded in
this country, conversations about transgender issues in the lesbian
community often run into resistance from women who view transitioning as
a "trend" or as an anti-feminist act that taps into male privilege. BOY
I AM is a feature-length documentary that begins to break down that
barrier and promote dialogue about transgender issues through a look at
the experiences of three young transitioning FTM's (female-to-males) as
they go through major junctures in their transitions, as well as through
the voices of their female partners, lesbian activists and theorists who
raise and address the questions that many people have but few openly
discuss. The film will be followed by brief remarks by Chase Catalano
and Devi Schlasko. Chase Catalano is currently a doctoral student in and
Devi Schlasko has a Masters Degree from the Social Justice Education
Program at the University of Massachusetts, Amherst. There will also be
an opportunity for questions and discussion. This event is sponsored by
the Stonewall Center and Everywoman's Center at the University of
Massachusetts and is free, open to public and wheelchair accessible.
Everyone is welcome to attend and we will bring the popcorn! Co-sponsors
include: the East Coast Female to Male Group; the Men's Resource Center
and Women's Studies/UMass. For more information please call: the
Stonewall Center at 545-4824 or Everywoman's Center at 545-0883 or
