---Local sex workers and members of the organization Arise for Social (a
community-based poor people's organization in Springfield, MA) are ocoming to
present at Hampshire----
Woman's Center: 6PM
Wednesday, April 14
The workshop will give an overview of the three policy approaches to
prostitution: Criminalization (current practice), Legalization (some counties
in Nevada) and Decriminalization (nowhere in the US). Part of the question
posed is: what are the alternatives to incarceration?
They will include talk about the sex industry, in general, including different
aspects of it --escort, stripping, etc...legal vs. illegal segments of the
industry as they operate today, including a race and class analysis
There will also be a general discussion around sex work and sex worker's place
in feminism as well as some personal reflections on what it's like to work on
and represent such a provocative and stigmatized issue.
