Poet and Visual artist, Sandra Maria Esteves, award winning poet, and founder 
of the Nuyorican Poetry Mov't was born and raised in the Bronx, 
New York, and has been writing poetry since 1972. She is an activist- poetry 
advocate currently presenting literary programs throughout the U.S. She is 
also the producer and director of the African-Caribbean Poetry Theater, In 
addition to a number of chapbooks and anthology entries, she has published six 
collections of poetry, including Bluestown Mockingbird Mambo (Arte Publico 
Press) and her first book, Yerba Buena, which was selected as Best Small Press 
Publication by the Library Journal in 1981.
