Did you know? 
-That Cinco de Mayo is not Mexico's Independence Day (which is September 16th)
-That Cinco de Mayo is the commemoration of a victory by Mexican troops in La Batalla de Puebla on May 5, 1862. President Benito Juarez sent troops, under the command of General Ignacio Zaragosa, to confront the French army at Puebla. The Mexican troops were greatly outnumbered and severely underequipped yet managed to defeat the French army who, at that time, were considered to be the premier army of the world. 
-That Cinco de Mayo is an opportunity to celebrate its cultural significance - victory in the face of great odds and the patriotism that it generated.
