IRON CHEF, THE KITCHEN, AND CULTURAL CENTER MUSIC LIBRARY
first. IRON CHEF!!! It's coming to a Hampshire near you. the catch? we need
your talent, your brains, and your, um, money.
see email below about iron chef, music, and the kitchen:
***Iron Chef, etc.***
hi folks,
here are a couple reminders/announcements:
1. Iron chef competition
So far no one has shown concrete interest in participating. If your group would
like to take part in the contest, please let us know ASAP. We need to do
shopping and finalize plans, so we need to know how many people are
participating. There will be three grills and we hope to buy portable electric
burners in addition. It will take place on May 4th at the SOURCE end of the
year celebration. We hope to have a prize for the winner. Please send us your
shopping lists as soon as possible. We will be buying basic items, let us know
what you would like to augment that with. Also, if your group is participating,
please think about how much money you would like to contribute for food,
equipment, etc.
2. Cultural Center
Please remember to clean up after yourselves when using the center. Staff often
have to do dishes, rearrange furniture, mop floors, and wipe surfaces after
meetings or events take place. please leave the space the way you found it, we
would greatly appreciate that. also please don't leave food out, and close any
containers or packages before putting them back in the fridge. the staff will
love you...
3. MUSIC!!
the two cultural center computers are now sharing their itumes music libraries
on the mac network. look in appletalk under hampnet2. the computers are called
boo and boo boo. the majority of music is on boo boo, over 1,000 songs, yay!!
check it out!! also, we are in the process of building up a cd library, as you
may or may not have noticed. check out what we have down by the cd player. if
you have any cd's that you would like to share, especially obscure or
international music, please bring it in and rip the cd's to the computer. if
you don't know how to do that, ask for help or leave the cd in marah's staff
box upstairs and i'll do it for you. or come in during my hours: mondays from
~1-5 and tuesdays from 6pm - 12.
thank you for actually reading this,
marah

On Wednesday, at 6:30 p.m. there will be a meeting to improve Community Council
and student governance in the Airport Lounge. Students of color, SOURCe folk,
mixed heritage and international students are not represented in these
meetings, so it'd be great if you could make these meetings. EVERYONE is
welcome and encouraged to attend. for more info, see email from melissa below:
***MELISSA'S EMAIL***
The second open meeting to discuss Community Council restructuring and
improvement will take place at 6:30PM, on Wednesday 9th, in the Conference
Room of the Airport Lounge. It will be catered.
**NOTE** Any significant Council restructuring will require student approval
through a referendum. This referendum may happen before the end of this
semester. If you consider this timeline appropriate or inappropriate for
making an informed decision, please tell your Community Council
representatives (find out your reps at
http://stout.hampshire.edu/~ccouncil/members.html ) Is one month enough time
for folks?
The last (well attended) meeting discussed issues of representation, which
produced three different ideas about Council structure. One idea is a Council
of all elected representatives. Another is replacing at-large elections with
the appointment of delegates by various community development centers and
groups on campus. There was a strong sentiment for blending the two, to create
a Council composed of both elected representatives and delegates from groups.
Questions about elections involved how students were to be divided: housing
unit, simple at-large, School, or Divisional level (I,II, or III). Questions
about potential delegates revolved around asking which groups should actually
send delegates: schools, administrative centers, student groups, interns,
health worker students, and/or work-study students. Also, should seats remain
for faculty and staff members?
Remember, Community Council has oversight of the money you pay into the
Student Activities Fee (that is used to fund student groups and events) and is
the organ through which all students can influence school policy. If you want
to voice your opinion about these changes to your student government, please
attend the meeting, or contact your Council representatives. You can also
email bakunin661 at hotmail.com with your opinions. Thank you.
