Indigenous Women on the Frontlines of Climate Activism: The Battle for 
Environmental Justice in the Amazon
Keynote by Sonia Guajajara
Thursday, February 13 at 5 p.m.
Paradise Room, Smith College Conference Center, 49 College Lane
Sônia Bone Guajajara is an indigenous environmentalist and political 
activist who advocates for indigenous rights in Brazil and is a leading 
voice for progressive change. All are welcome but seating is limited and

Sônia Guajajara’s biography illustrates the range of her social and 
political reach: Born among the Guajajara people in an Amazonian village 
in Indigenous territory in the state of Maranhão, she has degrees in 
linguistics, nursing, and special education and now serves as executive 
coordinator of the Articulação dos Povos Indígenas do Brasil 
(Articulation of the Indigenous Peoples of Brazil).
