Dimming Meril Lights Proposal

Problem to Address:

The hallway lights in the Meril dorms maintain the same brightness
throughout all hours of the day, giving off daylight level brightness
even at the latest hours of the night. Currently this system wastes
energy (very few people are enjoying the light at say, 3 a.m),
disrupts the student?s circadian rhythms (predisposing students to
unhealthy sleep schedules) and is just uncomfortable.

Proposed Solution:

By dimming the majority of hallway lights after certain hours we
could save energy, money and student comfort without creating safety
risks. This system is already in place in the Dakin houses and has not
lead to adverse consequences. It would be easy to inform Merilites
before the switch.
