THE ETHEL WALKER SCHOOL is hosting a 2-day  conference for educators, school
administrators, food service providers,  community organizers and more, to
advance food system literacy in schools and  communities around the nation,
on June 16 and 17, 2011, at Walker's campus  in Simsbury, CT. This national
conference features keynote speakers Frances  Beinecke EWS '67, President of the
NRDC, Author and Environmentalist Bill  McKibben, President of Sustainable Food
Systems John Turenne, plus over 15  important workshops and field excursions.

THE  NATION.

THE ETHEL WALKER SCHOOL has become a forerunner in the  practice of teaching
environmental stewardship via collaborative education  techniques, sustainable
practices, and working partnerships. Learn about and  share best practices with
featured speakers from around the nation to advance  healthy and environmentally
sound food sourcing, literacy, organic farming and  preparation practices in
schools and communities.  Discuss specific  challenges and solutions during
facilitated conversations which will provide  insight into new initiatives.

is a non-profit organization seeking to improve conditions  in one of the
poorest areas of Hartford, CT. Its landmark, award-winning  restaurant, The
Firebox is a leader in the farm-to-table movement, and Billings  Forge itself is
a key collaborator in Walker’s environmental and community  outreach programs.
Enjoy lunch and a tour of this innovative rehabilitation  project which features
an urban farm.
