<DIV>A group of faculty at Smith is investigating the feasibility of creating a Book Studies Concentration here, on the model of the Museums Concentration (<A href="http://www.smith.edu/museums/">http://www.smith.edu/museums/</A>) that was set up 3 years ago. </DIV>
<DIV> </DIV>
<DIV>The proposal we hope to put before the administration in the coming weeks should include a complete list of all the book-related (history, studio, etc) courses offered in the 5-Colleges, so I am asking those of you who teach such courses, or know of such courses in departments outside the reach of the libri-list, to respond to me with simply the course number, title and instructor (no description needed at this point). If any of you are aware that such a list already exists I'd be pleased if you would direct me to it.</DIV>

<DIV>Also, if you are interested in seeing the proposal once it's done, let me know. </DIV>
<DIV> </DIV>
<DIV>To the planners it is clear that this endeavor at Smith won't obviate or co-opt a future 5-College program, if at some point down the road we feel we want to propose such a thing. Indeed, if this concentration becomes a part of the Smith curriculum it might even strengthen a later proposal to 5-Colleges, Inc. </DIV>
