<DIV>I just received this email from the Smith College President's Office, announcing the death today of Elliot Offner. He was a notable member of the book arts community, a popular professor, and a personal friend. When I was a Smith College freshman, he championed my interest in books of all kinds, got me access to the Rare Book Room (which was not as welcoming as it is today), and thus, is largely responsible for my career in the book arts and library fields. </DIV>
