25—October 2—Piano Hinge
This binding is quite sculptural and uses a
combination of folded pages and rods to create a hinge-like binding. The opened
book reveals the dovetailed pages.

October
9—Stab Bindings
Japanese stab bindings create books with a hard cover and an
exposed, decoratively stitched binding. It’s a great way to bind together single
sheets of prints, drawings, photos and text.

October 16—Stitching over Tapes
This binding uses
tape supports to attach several signatures together. The sewing is done over the
tapes, making a beautiful stitched binding. Bind blank pages or pages that are
already graced with words and/or images.

October 23—Long Stitch/Link Stitch
This old German
book style uses a single thread to sew sections into a paper cover. The exposed
stitches on the spine alternate long stitches with a row of chaining at the top
and bottom of the spine.

October 30—Coptic Binding
This ancient North
African binding technique allows a book to open and lay flat, making it
wonderful for sketchbooks. Features of this book include wrapped hard covers,
lots of blank pages and lovely linked chains of stitches exposed on the spine of
the book.
