Dr. Michael Hatt (Head of Research, Yale Center for British
Art),
specialist in the study of Victorian art, culture and
sexuality, will
deliver a lecture at Smith entitled

THE BOOK BEAUTIFUL: READING, VISION AND THE HOMOSEXUAL
IMAGINATION IN
THE LATE-NINETEENTH CENTURY

The talk will cover the reading and publishing practices--as
they
relate to consumption and desire--by such prominent
Victorian figures as
the photographer Fred Holland Day, the artist and designer
Charles
Ricketts, as well as the writers John Addington Symonds and
Benjamin
Jowett.
