As part of the ongoing Calico Lecture Series at Hampshire College,
photographer Abelardo Morell will speak about his work on Tuesday,
April 4th at 8 pm, in the Film/Photography/Video Building.
During the last 15 years, Abelardo Morell has published seven
photographic books, including two on the subject of books themselves:
"A Book of Books" and his version of "Alice's Adventures in
Wonderland", of which Peter Galassi (Curator of Photography at MOMA)
writes,
"For his illustrations, Abelardo Morell had the brilliant idea of
making the book itself a character in the story. His photographs, at
once eerie and full of wit, are beautifully realized."
Morell's interest in the unexpected optical qualities of ordinary
objects is earning him an expanding international audience. He will
be discussing the scope of his career in his lecture next Tuesday.
The lecture is free, open to the public, and wheelchair accessible.
