ONE EXHIBITION & TWO BOOK-RELATED EVENTS
SMITH COLLEGE, Northampton, Massachusetts
"Holding In, Holding On: Artist's Books by Martha A. Hall." An
exhibition of books created in response to breast cancer and as part
of
the healing process. On display September through October 2003,
Neilson
Library Galleries. Books from the Mortimer Rare Book Room and other
collections.
A reception with the artist, Martha A. Hall, will be held on Tuesday,
October 21, 4-6 pm, in the Book Arts Gallery (Neilson Library, 3rd
floor). Sponsored by the Mortimer Rare Book Room.
Mortimer Lecture and Book Signing: Thursday, November 13, 2003, 7:30
pm, Neilson Library Browsing Room. This year's Mortimer Lecture
features
two authors of new books about Sylvia Plath and Ted Hughes. Kate
Moses'
novel, WINTERING, focuses on the last months of Sylvia Plath's life,
during which she created the poems of "Ariel." Diane Middlebrook's
biography, HER HUSBAND, provides a portrait of Ted Hughes and
discusses
how his life and art were shaped by his marriage to Plath.
All of these events are free and open to the public.
