Here are further details on the Simon Winchester lecture:
Commonwealth College of the
University of Massachusetts
and the
Hampshire College Center for the Book
are pleased to sponsor a visit by
Simon Winchester, author of
The Professor and the Madman : a tale of murder, insanity, and the making of
the Oxford English Dictionary
2:00 p.m. opening of exhibit of paintings by William Chester Minor (the
"Madman"), Du Bois Library, University of Massachusetts
8:00 p.m. public lecture, Bowker Auditorium, University of Massachusetts
Simon Winchester studied geology at Oxford and has written for Condé Nast
Traveler, Smithsonian, and National Geographic. His most recent book is The
Map that Changed the World: William Smith and the Birth of Modern Geology
(HarperCollins, 2001). Mr. Winchester lives in Massachusetts and in the
Western Isles of Scotland.
