face="Times New Roman" size=3>In the spirit of the Jewish holiday, Purim, the
Hillel Foundation at the University of Massachusetts at Amherst is presenting
their Annual Latke vs. Hamantash Debate. This event exhibits Jewish humor at its
best and will take place on Sunday, March 7 at 12noon in the UMass Hillel House,
located at 388 N. Pleasant Street in Amherst, MA.</FONT></P>

</SPAN>Four distinguished members of the UMass faculty will debate the virtues
of these two traditional Jewish foods: The latke (potato pancake eaten during
Chanukah) and the hamantash (a fruit filled pastry eaten during
Purim).</FONT></FONT></P>

</SPAN>The debaters for the latke are FRED COHEN of the Music Department
speaking on “The Pivotal Role of the Latke in History”; and DAVID SAMUELS of the
Anthropology Department speaking on “Meta-Intexicality, Metanoia and Metapelot:
parsing the Culture of the Potato.” The debaters for the hamantash are DEBBIE
FELTON of the Classics Department speaking on “How the Hamantash Caused the Fall
of the Roman Empire”; and DORON GOLDMAN of the School of Management speaking on
“The Hamantash: Perception vs. Reality.”</FONT></FONT></P>
