annual gathering of the Jewish community in North America with over 5,000
participants. The GA is an incredible opportunity for students to network with
top Jewish lay leaders and professionals, learn about the biggest issues facing
today's Jewish communities and meet other students from around North America.
Last year, over 700 students attended the GA.<SPAN

color=#000000>The principal focus of the 2002 GA involves the crisis in the
Middle East, global anti-Semitism, and the results of the 2000 National Jewish
Population Study. In addition to an array of major plenaries with top name
speakers, including Ariel Sharon, a variety of special student programs and
workshops are also planned. Unlike past GAs, which began with a Shabbaton, the
2002 GA runs mid-day Wednesday (the student orientation is at 1:00 p.m.)
through mid-day Friday (the conference will be over by 12:30 p.m.). A student
Shabbat option is available at the University of Pennsylvania Hillel. Students
can register for the Shabbat option at </FONT><A

color=#000000>The cost of the GA is $200 and includes two nights lodging (Wed.
and Thurs.), one dinner, one lunch and several receptions. If a student
does not need lodging, the cost of the GA is $50. Scholarships are a possibility
from local Jewish Federations, local Hillels and the Schusterman
International Center. To apply for a scholarship from the Schusterman
International Center, students must fill out the scholarship part of the
registration form when they register online. Scholarship<SPAN
class=410420815-01102002>s are</SPAN> very limited, and the average
scholarship will be about $80. Scholarship is given on a first come-first serve
basis, so please have your students apply early. Students will find out their
scholarship amount by e-mail after they register and that amount will be

</SPAN>Hear firsthand from Israeli college students what life is like "Living
in<SPAN class=360390616-02102002> </SPAN>Terror."<SPAN
class=360390616-02102002> </SPAN>This Wednesday, October 9th, three
Israeli college students, Galit Shapira,<SPAN class=360390616-02102002>
</SPAN>Ariel Goldsmith and Amit Yariv, will be speaking in Johnson Chapel
at<SPAN class=360390616-02102002> </SPAN>Amherst College from 8-10pm how
terrorist attacks have affected their daily<SPAN class=360390616-02102002>
</SPAN>lives. They will share insights about their experiences and daily fears
as<SPAN class=360390616-02102002> </SPAN>Israeli civilians and soldiers in a
country at war. They will speak about<SPAN class=360390616-02102002> </SPAN>life
in the Israeli Army, and military policy on the West Bank and Gaza.<SPAN
class=360390616-02102002> </SPAN>They will present their perspectives on the
United States' upcoming war on<SPAN class=360390616-02102002> </SPAN>Iraq and
the challenges they see in Israel's immediate future. The lecture<SPAN
class=360390616-02102002> </SPAN>is free and begins at 8pm. Doors open at
7:30pm.<SPAN class=360390616-02102002> </SPAN>Galit Shapira, 24-years-old,
served in the tanks division of the Israeli<SPAN class=360390616-02102002>
</SPAN>Defense Force, and is currently studying at The Lauder School of
Government,<SPAN class=360390616-02102002> </SPAN>Diplomacy and Strategy in The
Interdisciplinary Center in Herziliya, Israel.<SPAN class=360390616-02102002>
</SPAN>Ariel Goldsmith, 23-years-old, worked in an intelligence-combat brigade
in<SPAN class=360390616-02102002> </SPAN>the Israeli Defense Force where he
served as a medic, a counselor/instructor<SPAN class=360390616-02102002>
</SPAN>and a commander. He spent the majority of his service on the
South-Lebanese<SPAN class=360390616-02102002> </SPAN>front, and served on the
West Bank and in the Gaza Strip after September<SPAN class=360390616-02102002>
</SPAN>2000. He will begin studying for his MBA at Hebrew University this
month.<SPAN class=360390616-02102002> </SPAN>Amit Yariv, 26-years-old, served in
the Israeli Defense Force for 4.5 years<SPAN class=360390616-02102002>
</SPAN>first as a tank driver and later as a Human Resource Officer. He is now
a<SPAN class=360390616-02102002> </SPAN>reserve First Lieutenant and is
currently studying at Tel Aviv University's<SPAN class=360390616-02102002>
</SPAN>Law School.</DIV></DIV>
