Hello JSU, 

By now, I am sure you have all heard the news about the shooting at a
synagogue in Poway, California near San Diego on shabbat morning
yesterday. Tragically, one person was killed and three more were
injured. 

We are only one week out from the church bombings in Sri Lanka on Easter
Sunday - hundreds of people were killed. Last month, 50 people were
killed at shootings in two Christchurch, New Zealand mosques. Over the
past several weeks, three historically black churches in Louisiana were
burned. Exactly six months ago, the shooting at the Tree of Life
Synagogue in Pittsburgh rocked the American Jewish community. This is an
incomplete list of the violent attacks at houses of worship and other
spaces that have occurred recently. 

Instances like these are a reminder of the violent nature and presence
of white supremacy and white nationalism as they exist around the world.
The shooter has cited previous attacks as inspiration, and referenced
motivations similar to those of the Pittsburgh shooter; namely that
Jewish support for non-white immigrants poses an existential threat to
the continuity of America as a white nation.
