COLLEGE  
WEDNESDAY, NOVEMBER 11 AT 7 PM IN THE NEILSON BROWSING ROOM. 

Award winning Hebrew writer and translator Asaf Gavron will be at Smith
College to talk about his novel The Hilltop, set in a fictional West
Bank Jewish settlement. It is one of the first Israeli novels to explore
the inner world and motivations of the settler movement, allowing
audiences into a corner of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict that is
often a core issue of contention between the sides. Gavron will talk
about the challenging intersection of art and politics in contemporary
Hebrew literature, and especially the ways in which writers can help us
better understand hot-button issues on the international agenda by
moving beyond political sloganeering. Co-sponsored by the Programs in
Jewish Studies, Comparative Literature, Middle East Studies, and the
