JCAT Asst. Adviser Job Description
* *
*Title: *Asst. Adviser for JCAT
*Reports to: *Rachael Goren, Director of Teen Programming
*Based at: *Jewish Community of Amherst, but work can be completed off-site.
*Job purpose*: To assist in the implementation and programming of the JCA
teen programs.
*Key Responsibilities and Accountabilities:*
1. Attending teen programming (JCAT) on an as-needed basis to facilitate
teen programming for teens grades 7-9.
2. Planning and carrying out teen programming as needed for 7th-9th grade
teens affiliated and non-affiliated with the JCA.
3. Attend training sessions and orientations as needed.
4. Completing all paperwork and documentation in a timely and accurate
fashion, and continuing to follow guidelines for all teen programming.
5. Communicating logistical and administrative needs with the Director of
Teen Programming.
6. Communicating with supervisor at least once a month for supervisory
purposes.
7. Assist in teen programming publicity and marketing.
8. Respond to teen and parent inquiries in a timely fashion.
9. Strengthen the teen's Jewish identity as often as possible, offering
the teens the opportunity to explore their own identity as Jewish teens.
*Specific Job Skills: *
- Successful experience working with teens as a counselor, teacher, or in
another related capacity.
- Knowledge of Judaism and Jewish life.
- Ability to work well with teens, parents, fellow professionals and
lay leaders.
- Experience in and proven success with the development, coordination
and implementation of teen program events and activities.
- Excellent written and oral communication and organizational skills.
- Possesses an engaging/charismatic personality, energetic, creative,
well-organized, a self-starter, a coach, and a high desire to make things
happen.
- Ability to travel as needed throughout Amherst for job related
duties.
- Ability to work periodic evening and weekend hours.

*Time Commitment*: Part-time position, approximately 3-6 hours per month
*Salary: *$18/hr.
*Vision for Teen Programming*:
The past few years of JCA teen programming have been focused on recreating
a vibrant teen group and engaging teens in leadership to keep the teen group
functional and strong.
The site's vision for teen life is:
· To nurture the further exploration of our Jewish teen's identity,
· Build teen connections to Jewish experience in our community by
providing a peer experience in a youth group and community service learning,
as well as disseminating information to parents and teens about other
opportunities of Jewish programming that are not connected to the site (such
as summer camps, Israel programs, and other teen programs).
