A member of the Five-College Jewish community has suffered the loss of a parent
and must, according to Jewish law, recite the Mourners Kadish before a minyan,
or a quorum of ten (or more) Jewish men. There are daily services meeting at
UMass Hillel so that the mourner can fulfill this mitzvah, but getting a full
minyan together is often difficult. The mourner in question practices Orthodox
Judaism, which means that the quorum must be of 10 Jewish MEN, over the age of
bar-mitzvah, and so while any and all are welcome and encouraged to attend
prayer services in support of both the individual and the community in this
time of mourning, there is a special plea going out to the men of the Five
Colleges. It is a big mitzvah and a good deed to help complete a minyan,
especially in order to enable a mourner to say Kadish.

Times:

Shacharit, or morning prayer, meets Monday-Friday at 7:40am
Mincha-Maariv, afternoon-evening prayers, begin at 4:40pm
Saturday services begin at 9:30am, followed by lunch at 1:15pm
Sunday shacharit is held at Chabad House at 9am, mincha at 4:40pm, and maariv at
7om.

The services do not take long, if you can spare 15-20 minutes any day of the
week, please come. If you would like to attend, but are daunted by
transportation issues and complications, please talk to me
(nlb07 at hampshire.edu) to work out a ride.
