Dear all,
Peter Cole 77F, an award-winning Jewish poet, translator and MacArthur Fellow
(and Hampshire alum), will be reading and speaking on Thursday, October 23rd,
at 7 pm in the West Lecture Hall of FPH. His talk is titled: "Freedom and
Responsibility in Poetry: On Translating the World."

About Peter Cole:
The recipient of a 2007 MacArthur Foundation Fellowship, Peter Cole has
published translations of medieval Hebrew poetry, contemporary Hebrew and
Arabic poetry and fiction, and several books of his own poetry. Cole has
received numerous awards for his work, including fellowships from the John
Simon Guggenheim Foundation, the National Endowment for the Arts, the National
Endowment for the Humanities, and the 1998 Modern Language Association
Translation Award. Cole is also the founder and co-editor of Ibis Editions, a
small press devoted to the publication of Levant-related literature. He lives
in Jerusalem.
