  Ghosts of Abu Ghraib

The familiar and disturbing pictures of torture at Iraq's Abu Ghraib
prison raise many troubling questions: How did torture become
an accepted practice at Abu Ghraib? Did U.S. government policies
make it possible? How much damage has the aftermath of Abu Ghraib
had on America's credibility as a defender of freedom and human rights
around the world? Acclaimed filmmaker Rory Kennedy looks beyond
the headlines to investigate the psychological and political context
in which torture occurred.

"The more deeply immersed I became in the thinking of the prophets, the
more powerfully it became clear to me what the lives of the prophets
sought to convey: that morally speaking there is no limit to the concern
one must feel for the suffering of human beings. It also became clear to
me that in regard to cruelties committed in the name of a free society,
some are guilty, all are responsible."

-Rabbi Abraham Joshua Heschel
