JOB OPENING - PROGRAM ASSISTANT

BACKGROUND ON THE KORET FOUNDATION: The San Francisco-based Koret Foundation
supports organizations and initiatives in the San Francisco Bay Area and in
Israel, focusing on the areas of Jewish life and culture, education, community
and economic development. With assets of approximately $400 million, Koret
distributes $15 to $20 million annually to nonprofit organizations throughout
the Bay Area and in Israel. Since 1979, the Foundation has made grants
approaching $300 million.

The Koret Foundation organizes much of its grantmaking around key initiatives,
including the Koret Task Force on K-12 Education, undertaking policy research
related to school reform; Koret Israel Economic Development Funds, a program
that provides loan guarantees to small businesses in Israel; and Routes to
Learning, Koret's youth initiative, which is funding the development of
educational enrichment-focused after school programs at community-based
organizations in the Bay Area. Please see our web site at

PURPOSE: Assist Director of Grants and program officers with administrative and
programmatic tasks and contribute to office-wide administrative duties for
several organizations, including two private foundations and a public charity.

ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Support the Director of Grants in the coordination and compilation of the
materials that are produced for each board of directors’ meeting, and from
which the Foundation’s directors make decisions regarding grants. Includes
responsibility for organizing the calendar of staff meetings and board book
production, maintaining grants agenda, and editing and ensuring conformance of
materials to established format.

Under the direction of a program officer:
• reviews grant applications for completeness
• drafts, edits, formats proposal summaries and post-grant evaluations for the
Board Book and Approval Calendar
• contacts agencies for missing or additional materials
• conducts basic research and inquiries related to grant requests
• prepares correspondence and reports relating to grant applications and active
grants
• attends select program meetings and site visits
• monitors grant disbursement and reporting cycles

Assists with office-wide administrative duties including:
• Meeting preparation and board meeting set up
• Administrative and programmatic tasks and projects, including telephone
coverage
• Koret special projects
• Management of in-house grant administration related to Koret initiatives and
programs
• Grants database updates

QUALIFICATIONS:
Requires strong written and verbal communications skills, excellent attention
to detail, basic analytical skills, excellent organizational skills with the
ability to multi-task and work independently and collaboratively to meet
deadlines. Skills in MS Word, Excel, Microedge Gifts. Must be able to maintain
a professional demeanor and work well in a fast-paced organization meeting
strenuous deadlines. Bachelors degree, experience in nonprofit sector
preferred.
