National Yiddish Book Center presents
The Rosenbach Company
Amherst, MA - The National Yiddish Book Center, located on the campus of
Hampshire College, 1021 West Street, Amherst, MA, 01002, will present
the New England premiere performance of The Rosenbach Company on
Thursday, April 6, 2006, at 7:30 pm. Tickets are $12 /$6 student
w/valid id. Reservations are suggested.
The Rosenbach Company is famed cartoonist Ben Katchor and musician Mark
Mulcahy's new pop-musical that chronicles the life and times of the
Rosenbach brothers, the world's preeminent rare-book dealers. Their
collection ranged from James Joyce's manuscript of Ulysses to John
Tenniel's original illustrations for Alice in Wonderland. Mixing
projected animated images with live actors, singers and musicians, the
show explores the obsessive nature of collecting, the relationship
between cultural and commercial pursuits and the brothers' historical
significance as owners of some of the world's greatest literary
treasures.
Variety called it "thrilling, charming and altogether a knockout." Join
us for this evening of "haunting music," "witty power" and "postmodern
Yiddishkeit"!
Featured musicians are Brian Marchese, Henning Ohlenbusch and Dave
Trenholm alongside singers Mollie Weaver, Ryan Mercy and Mark Mulcahy.
Mulcahy is a Springfield based musician who was the front-man for the
New Haven band Miracle Legion.
